Order to seize assets of rebels

Patna (PTI): In a crackdown on Maoists, the government has attached the property of 21 rebels, mostly in Naxalite-affected Aurangabad district, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. A total of 39 cases were lodged by the state police headquarters for seizure of properties under the Act, of which the state government has given a go-ahead order for 21 cases. The wife of top Maoist commander Arvind, a member of the outfit’s central committee, who owned land worth Rs 25 lakh, is one of the rebels. The initiative, considered a brainchild of the director-general of police Abhayanand, is probably the first of its kind in the country.

Homeguard dead

samastipur: A homeguard, who was on duty at the district transport office on Vikas Bhavan premises, died on Tuesday morning after suffering bullet injuries from his own rifle. The deceased, identified as Saron Ishar (50), is a resident of Bhamrupur under the jurisdiction of Muffassil police station, around 100km northeast of Patna.

Bar on lawyer

Patna: Bihar State Bar Council has debarred Dharmendra Kumar, an advocate of Patna High Court, from practising in any court or before any authority or person in India. The disciplinary committee of the council found Kumar guilty of gross professional misconduct. The inquiry was done after receiving a complaint from one Babu Lal Mistri of Lakhisarai. Ashok Kumar, registrar, disciplinary committee of the council on Tuesday said the decision came into effect from December 2.

Bribe arrest

Patna: State vigilance bureau sleuths nabbed district fisheries officer of Kishanganj, Saroj Kumar, while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from one Baliram Mukhiya. Baliram had approached the bureau complaining that the officer was demanding bribe in lieu of granting permission for fishing in a waterbody.

Survey funds

Patna: Funds of Rs 11.035 lakh has been sanctioned for carrying out the survey work of Daha, Rato and Awadhara rivers. Water resources department sources said on Tuesday the survey work would be carried out during 2013-14 financial year.

Additional charge

Patna: B. Pradhan, the principal secretary of mines and geology department, has been given the additional charge of Bihar State Mineral Development Corporation Limited. G.P. Daftuar, who is posted as the additional secretary in the same department, has been given the extra charge of director of the corporation, official sources said on Tuesday.

Extortion protest

Patna: Members of Bihar Public School and Children Welfare Association would stage a protest outside the regional office of CBSE on December 6 to draw attention of the board towards the alleged extortion of money from schools on the pretext of verification. Association sources said on Tuesday a letter in this regard was also being sent to the chief vigilance commissioner.

Social cause

Patna: Believers Church on Tuesday distributed 16 tricycles among differently abled persons on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Church sources said warm clothes, sewing machines and other items were also distributed among underprivileged people on this occasion.
