Panel whip on illegal detention

Patna: The State Human Rights Commission, Bihar, has asked the Bagaha superintendent of police to put an assistant sub-inspector, Raja Ram Singh, under suspension on the charge of illegal detention of two persons at Ram Nagar police station.

A complaint was filed before the commission by Maimuran Nisha, a resident of Nauka Tola in West Champaran district. She alleged that her husband, Sheikh Kamil, and his brother Sheikh Toofani were detained and tortured by the police officer in March 2013 out of personal vendetta.

Acting chairman of the commission Neel Mani on Tuesday said the Bagaha superintendent of police has been asked to submit a report on disciplinary action initiated against Singh before May 31, 2014.

Railway transfers

Patna: East Central Railway (ECR), in a drive to weed out railway ticket touts, has transferred the in-charge inspector of Railway Protection Force of Samastipur. Investigation into the role of two more security personnel posted in Raxaul has revealed their link with a ticket tout and steps are being taken to transfer them, an ECR note stated on Tuesday.

Power PIL

Patna: A division bench of Patna High Court, hearing a PIL on Tuesday, directed the government and chairman of Bihar State Power (Holding) Company to file affidavits with regard to the difficulties faced by residents in connection with energy bills. The court would monitor the case, the PIL of which was filed by one Jagdish Singh.

Jibe at Nitish

Patna: BJP leader and the president of All India Yadav Mahasangh, Ajay Yadav, on Tuesday attacked chief minister Nitish Kumar and claimed that officers were ruling the state. He claimed that the people of Bihar were fed up with the rule of Nitish and wanted a change in the state. He also claimed that a wave in support of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was visible across the country.

Church project

Patna: Believers’ Church, Patna, has launched its Bridge of Hope project at Kalabalua in Araria district. A note from the church said on Tuesday the project is related to the development of children from underprivileged sections.

Condolences

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday mourned the death of former Odisha Speaker Yudhisthir Das. Nitish said Das’s death has caused irreparable damage to the political field.

Bribe acquittal

Patna: CBI judge Ravindra Patwari on Tuesday acquitted a Central Bank of India employee, Shiv Shankar Sinha, for want of evidence. Sinha, posted as a branch manager at Dinmanpur in Samastipur district in 2007, was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from one Mahesh Mahto.

In memory

Patna: Sir Ganesh Dutt Vichar Manch on Tuesday organised a programme to mark the birth anniversary of noted litterateur Acharya Nalin Vilochan Sharma. Addressing the participants, Manch president Ajay Kumar recalled Sharma’s contributions to the field of Hindi literature.
