Four dead in Araria Maoists held Red Cross HC directive

Four dead in Araria

Araria (PTI): Four persons were charred to death and seven others seriously injured on Tuesday after being struck by lightning at Chatar village in Araria district.

The victims were loading maize on a tractor trolley when lightning struck them, district health manager Vikash Kumar Singh told PTI. The deceased persons have identified as Rupesh Rishidev (30), Mohammed Shafiq (38), Mohammed Shakur (30) and Abdul Rahman (38). The bodies have been handed over to their relatives and the injured were being treated in Araria.

Maoists held

Gaya: Three suspected Maoists were arrested in connection with setting afire an earthmover and a tractor of Adarsh Constructions at Harahi Asthan village under Wazirganj block late on Sunday evening. The company is engaged in construction of around 3.5km stretch of road in Wazirganj block. The suspected Maoists — Mohan Yadav, Lalo Yadav and Sahdev Chaudhary — have been arrested from Budhaul village under Wazirganj block. Police arrested two sympathisers of the Maoists namely Shambhu Yadav and Mahendra Yadav on Monday from Dumaria block. Gaya city superintendent of police Chandan Kushwaha on Tuesday said the duo were going to supply motorcycles to the Maoists, which both have confessed after the arrest.

Red Cross

Patna: Indian Red Cross Society, Bihar state branch, would celebrate World Red Cross Day on May 8. The theme of the celebration will be “My Red Cross Story”. The day is also celebrated as the birthday of Sir Jean Henry Durant, the founder of the Red Cross Movement. About 1,500 students from different schools and Red Cross volunteers will take part in the programme. The students and the volunteers would form a human chain from Red Cross Bhavan to Kargil Chowk where 1,500 balloons will be released.

HC directive

Patna: Justice Navin Sinha of Patna High Court directed the urban development department secretary and other officials to appear in person in a case related to waterlogging in the Danapur locality. Despite repeated directives from the court, the department had failed to resolve the issue. The court fixed July 7 as the next date of hearing.
