Truck crushes four at bus stand
Bhagalpur (PTI): Four persons, including a pregnant woman and two children, were crushed to death when a truck overturned on them near Naugachhia bus stand in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday.
Naugachhia superintendent of police Rakesh Kumar said the incident happened when the four were standing near the bus stand. A few trucks were also parked along the roadside. The accident occurred when one of the trucks, parked along the road, jumped the queue owing to which another truck parked behind it lost control, skidded and fell over the four persons standing close by, he said.
The victims have been identified as Bhola Yadav (22), his sister Kiran Devi (28) and her two children. Kiran was pregnant at the time of death. They were residents of Toufil diara in Kahalgaon sub-division. The driver of the truck escaped.
Assault FIR against AAP
Buxar: Itarhi block circle officer Ashok Kumar Singh, assaulted by supporters of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Shweta Pathak on Monday, lodged an FIR against 35 people on Tuesday. According to reports, Shweta asked Ashok to accept some demands related to bazaar samiti. On this, he asked her to give a written memorandum. However, Shweta sat on a dharna, while her supporters attacked Ashok. They also damaged properties at the office. Ashok has been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital in serious condition. Buxar superintendent of police Jayant Kant said: “Nobody will be spared.”
Peddler shot
Sasaram: Mukhtar Qureshi, 48, a drug peddler, was shot dead by armed criminals at Kazirganj under the jurisdiction of Sasaram Town police station in Rohtas district late on Monday night. Police said Qureshi was attacked while returning home at Shah Jalalpur Peer after having dinner with his associate Bulaki Chandrawanshi alias Bulaki Kahar around 10.30pm. Qureshi was active in the clandestine business for the past three decades and had spread his network across the country.
Doc shift
Chhapra: Taking strong exception to non-conformity in posting of doctors in a review meeting of health department, district magistrate Kundan Kumar on Tuesday instructed civil surgeon Vinay Kumar Yadav to immediately transfer five out of 10 doctors of Sonepur referral hospital. He also instructed the transfer of three out of six doctors of Dariyapur, one out of four at Ekma and one out of four doctors of Sadar block to such primary health centres where there is dearth of doctors.
Rajdhani case
Chhapra: The special investigation team (SIT), probing the Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express accident on June 25, on Tuesday took the statement of its guard, A.K. Sonkar. SIT chief ASP Sushil Kumar said Sonkar had denied any blast before the accident. Statements of loco pilot Sukhdeo Mahto and assistant loco pilot Arvind Kumar were also taken. Sushil said forensic report of the team had been submitted before the court of chief judicial magistrate.
AIDS drugs
Patna: A division bench of the high court comprising Justice V.N. Sinha and Justice P.K. Jha on Tuesday directed the Union government and Bihar State AIDS Control Society to ensure round-the-year drug supply for AIDS patients in the state. The court gave its order that all the medicine for AIDS patients must be available at every anti retroviral treatment centres in the state throughout the year.
