Maize farmers protest for price

Naugachia: Over 250 maize farmers from different parts of Naugachia sub-division of Bhagalpur under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Mahasabha, on Monday blocked the NH-31 at Naugachia to press for their charter of demands like fixing minimum support price of maize at Rs 1,800 a quintal. Members of the Mahasabha outrightly rejected Union food and public distribution minister Ram Vilas Paswan’s recent announcement of fixing the minimum supported price of maize at Rs 1,310 a quintal.

Coordinator of eastern zone of the Mahasabha, Bindeshwari Mandal, alleged that the announcement made was only any eyewash because the prescribed minimum support price for maize (Rs 1,310 a quintal) would not go to solve the problems of the maize farmers. Police intervened and the blockade was removed after an hour.

Train mishap probe

Motihari: Detailed investigation in the goods train derailment incident, which took place on June 25 near Mehsi railway station, would commence after the report from the forensic science laboratory is made available. East Champaran ASP (operations) Rajeev Kumar on Monday said as no evidence related to the use of explosives had been found near the tracks, the forensic science laboratory report is likely to provide a lead in to the explosives used for damaging the railway tracks which led to derailment.

Transfer call

Patna: Patna district magistrate has transferred 226 employees who were posted in different offices of the district for over three years.

Awareness

Patna: Members of Aashray Abhiyan, a civil society organisation, took out an awareness march on Monday to support issues like female foeticide and atrocity against women.

Agro college

Patna: The agriculture college at Kishanganj would become functional from 2015-16 academic session. The construction work of the college is on in full swing and university vice- chancellor Mewalal Choudhary expressed satisfaction over the pace of work.

Appointment

Patna: Patna district magistrate N. Saravana Kumar distributed appointment letters to three persons whose appointments were made on compassionate grounds. A source in the Patna collectorate said all the appointments have been made on the post for lower division clerk.

Award

Patna: Vikas Anand of Family Dental Care Clinic has been awarded with national dental excellence award given by prime time research.

Students’ march

Patna: Congress workers took out a march on Monday to register their protest against the alleged caning of Bihar students in Andhra Pradesh by police. Congress leader Ajay Kumar urged chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi to take note of the incident and ensure safe return of the students.

Racket bust

Patna: Police busted a racket involved in duping customers by selling fake electronic gadgets claiming them to be manufactured by branded companies. Two persons were arrested during the raid on Monday. Goods worth Rs 8 lakh were seized.

Five in net

Patna: Five criminals allegedly involved in robbing passengers alighting from the trains were arrested from Patna Junction area on Monday. Police seized some cash that they had snatched from the victims.
