Missing child’s body found

Sasaram: The body of a 12-year-old boy, Ravi Prakash, was recovered from Dharmawati river in Rohtas district on Monday.

Ravi, son of homoeopathic practitioner Shashikant Singh, had gone missing on Sunday evening while playing in a field near his house. The victim’s father reported the matter late on Sunday night.

Sasaram sub-divisional police officer Nagendra Kumar Singh said the reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

The boy was a student of Class IV, he added.

Inmates hurt after clash

Jehanabad: At least two prisoners were seriously injured in a group clash in the divisional jail of the district on Monday. The clash broke out inside the jail after Tan Yadav was mercilessly beaten up by another inmate, Pappu Yadav, following a dispute. Jehanabad superintendent of police Aditya Kumar said the prisoners pelted stones at the security personnel when they visited the jail to bring the situation under control. Pappu and his uncle Surendra Yadav have been admitted to the jail hospital with injuries. Additional forces have been deployed in view of tension prevailing in the jail.

AIDS drugs

Patna: A division bench of Patna High Court comprising Justice V.N. Sinha and Justice P.K. Jha on Monday directed Bihar State AIDS Control Society (BSACS) director to ensure 24x7 drug supply at all the anti retroviral treatment (ART) centres of the state where AIDS patients are being treated. The court expressed its displeasure over the functioning of the BSACS. The society’s director told the court that Naco supplies AIDS medicines to the state which are made available to the ART centres. However, due to some disputes, drug supply was interrupted. Justice Sinha said: “I am not here to sort out differences between you and the health ministry or Naco. I want medicines to be made available round the year at the ART centres.” BSACS director told the court that he has authorised ART centres to purchase drug at local level. The court directed him to file a detailed affidavit.

Salary dues

Patna: The state human rights commission has asked the Samastipur district magistrate to submit a report on action taken in connection with non-payment of dues to an Urdu translator Abdul Hasan Ansari, who retired from service in December 2013. Commission member Neel Mani said the district magistrate concerned has been directed to submit the report by August 30. Ansari was not paid his salary and other allowances for almost 10 years when he was under suspension. His suspension was revoked and he was declared innocent by the conducting officer of the departmental proceedings against him.

Revamp plea

Patna: The government on Monday assured the high court that by October 10 this year, 250 beds would be made functional at the state’s only mental hospital, Bihar State Institute of Mental Health and Allied Sciences, Koilwar, Bhojpur. Earlier, the court had taken up the matter suo motu expressing its displeasure over the government’s apathy towards the only mental hospital in the state.

Abduction

Purnea: Sanjay Mandal, 25, was kidnapped from Sodhan village under the jurisdiction of Akabarpur police outpost of the district on Sunday. The victim’s father Rupan Mandal lodged a case of kidnapping against unidentified persons. Deputy superintendent of police Dilnawaz Ahmed said raids were conducted to rescue the kidnapped youth.
