Huts gutted in fire
Munger: Close to 30 huts were gutted in a fire at Maitoufir village in Munger district, around 225km east of Patna, late on Thursday night.
Circle officer Anita Bharti said relief items have been provided to the affected families.
She added that the fire broke out when children were bursting crackers in the village to celebrate Diwali.
Expulsion
Munger: JDU’s Munger district secretary Narendra Singh Kushwaha has been expelled from the party for staging demonstrations against the government. Kushwaha had accused police of harassment and of implicating him. Undeterred by the disciplinary action taken against him, Kushwaha on Friday said he would continue his struggle and place the matter before chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
Two dead
Hajipur: Two persons, identified as Tulsi Rai (45) and Mukesh Paswan (25), were killed on Friday in a violent clash between two groups of people over a plot of land under the jurisdiction of Lalganj police station in Vaishali district. The bodies were later sent to the Hajipur Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
Nagmani party
Patna: Former minister Nagmani inaugurated the state office of Samaras Samaj Party on Friday. The formal launch of the party, floated by Nagmani, would be organised in Delhi in November.
Condolences
Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Choudhary and Mahila Congress President Amita Bhushan on Friday expressed grief over the demise of former minister and senior state Congress leader P.N. Sharma. Sharma died after a prolonged illness. He was 88. Choudhary said the death of Sharma, who used to be the principal of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, has created a void in the field of education. Party spokesperson H.K. Verma said Sharma was a member of Legislative Council for 30 years from the Patna Teachers’ Constituency.
