Cloud over police constable death

Patna: A police constable, identified as Jawahar Singh, aged 50, died under mysterious circumstances in the Patna Police Lines on Friday. is son, Arun, has lodged an FIR in this connection at the Buddha Colony police station. Sources said Singh used to drink heavily and had come back to his barracks on Thursday night in an inebriated condition. He was found dead in the morning. The body has been sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem.

Beaten up

Buxar: Six bike-borne criminals on Friday evening beat up a jeweller and escaped. The police have recovered the gang’s bike. Police said the number plate of the bike indicated that it belonged to Rohtas. uxar sub-divisional police officer Shibli Nomani said: “Two criminals came to the shop-cum-house of Shanker Verma in Mushafirgunj locality in Town police station this evening and asked him to show them a gold ring. Taking the ring with them, the duo tried to flee. When Verma asked for the money, he was beaten up by them with the butt of a pistol. The duo were also joined by four other aides.” Police have started raids to nab them.

Memorandum

Patna: Members from the State Sports Association on Friday submitted a memorandum to Governor D.Y. Patil seeking his intervention in the amendments made in the Bihar Sports Bill, 2013. The members opposed the bill alleging it was in total contravention of the Olympic Charter.

Drug raids

Patna: The Patna police conducted raids at Hathikhana mod under Danapur police station and seized 650 bottles of Kelvin on Friday. Two persons were also arrested for illegally running the business. The drug is used to make people unconscious.
