Patna, Sept. 7: Patna Women’s College witnessed a battle of brains on the concluding day of National Nutrition Week today. The battleground in question was the department of home science, with warriors from both the graduate and postgraduate classes taking part in the competition.

The quiz, which derived questions from the students’ syllabi, saw MA final-year students Malindi Sinha, Disha Rani and Bhagyawani Bharti emerge winner among eight teams.

Co-ordinator of the event Sister Tanisha said: “The questions were not uncommon but what the girls study in class. Since the event was organised on the occasion of National Nutrition Week, which ended today, the questions were based on general nutrition. Some of the participants lacked self-confidence but that can be ensured only through more participation. Some of the girls were also confused during the course of the quiz. It was not because they did not know the answers but because of the time constraint. While some rounds had a time limit of 30 seconds to a minute, the girls had even less time to answer questions in others. It confused them and made them score less points in a few rounds.”

The participants, who came from BA second- and third-years and MA first- and second-years, however, had full support of their friends and teachers. The head of the department, Sujata Jha, and faculty members, Bandana Singh and Punam Kumari, were also present to encourage the participants at the competition.

The quizzards were, meanwhile, unanimous about their excitement on the pattern of the competition.

While in earlier years, such competitions were conducted in written form, this was the first time that it was conducted orally. It was exciting for the girls to answer the questions in front of everyone after deliberation among team members.

MA final-year students Alka Rani, Ritu Kumari and Swati Kumari emerged second.

Alka said: “We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly as it was an oral competition. We were curious to know the questions about to be asked and it was real fun to answer them on a common platform. These kind of competitions should be organised more often.”

Teammate Ritu said: “These competitions should be organised in every class although it was fun to compete on the inter-batch level.”

MA first-year students Sonam, Sulbha and Arya emerged third.
