Patna, Feb. 22: Magadh Mahila College would play host to a workshop titled Influence of Hindustani classical music on Rabindrasangeet, featuring professors and personalities associated not only with music but also with literature and philosophy.

The three-day UGC-sponsored workshop would commence on March 1.

Magadh Mahila College music department, in collaboration with Bharatiya Nritya Kala Mandir, has organised the event. About 150 people, including professors of different colleges and students, are expected to take part in the event.

Neera Choudhary, the head of the department of music, Magadh Mahila College, said this was the first time in the state that a workshop on this theme would be held in any institution.

“I am excited about this event. Invitations have been sent to almost all colleges in the state capital which have music departments. We have also sent invitation letters to some private and government schools,” said Choudhary.

She added that the workshop would see a presentation of research works based on the theme of the workshop. “Apart from the theme, there would be topics like the importance of dhrupad, khayal and tappa on which research papers would be presented by professors of different colleges and universities of Bihar. Professors of different colleges, including JD Women’s College and Sri Arvind Mahila College, would present their research papers in the workshop.

“This workshop will be different in the sense that it will not only have participation of people associated with music but also people related with literature and philosophy,” added Choudhary.
