Bhagalpur, May 31: A bandh was observed today in response to a call given by the RJD in protest against the week-long power crisis here.

The town has been left without power supply for around 11 days now.

Chakrapani Himansu, district president of the party alleged that even after 11 days, Bihar State Electricity Board has not repaired the tower of the transmission line, which was uprooted at Ekchari after a thunderstorm on May 21.

Market and business establishments, which are reeling under the adverse affect of poor power supply, remained closed today.

Vehicles, too, remained out off the roads. However, the bandh did not have any impact on train services. There was heavy deployment of security at Bhagalpur railway station.

Public transportation was completely withdrawn. “I had to walk more than 9km on Vikramshila Ganga Bridge with my family to reach Naugachia railway station,” Anandi Yadav, a resident, said.

Minor clashes between the bandh supporters and the shopkeepers have been witnessed in some parts of the city. Near the railway godown area, daily wage labourers allegedly thrashed some RJD supporters, who went there to close the work of unloading of goods from railway wagons.
