Gaya, Jan. 16: Thirty rounds were fired at an SUV, a man pulled out, hit with sticks and an attempt allegedly made to gouge his eyes out with a knife near Sirmaur village in Gaya on Friday evening.
An FIR was lodged with Bathani police station against five persons, including the injured 23-year-old Raju Khan's friend-turned-enemy Mumtaz Khan.
Raju received first aid at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
In what looks undoubtedly like a murderous attack, Raju suffered injuries near his eyes and it could have been worse.
His father Mohammad Ekram Hassan told The Telegraph over telephone from Patna today: "Doctors at PMCH told us the knife wound is near his eyes but it is unlikely that his vision would be affected. We are approaching a private nursing home for further treatment."
Nimchak Bathani sub-division deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Vidya Sagar said the attack was the result of an ongoing turf war between Raju and Mumtaz, who were friends earlier.
Both are land brokers and fell out sometime in the past. The two groups have clashed in the past too.
The two sides have lodged at least six cases against each other.
The police have lodged an FIR and raids are going on to arrest the named accused in the case and others.
Further investigation is on, the DSP said.
Reportedly, Raju is an accused in the murder of Saddam Khan of Sirmaur village and was recently released on bail.
After the attack last evening, he was rushed to Jai Prakash Narayan hospital in Gaya from where doctors referred him to PMCH.
