Patna, Nov. 23: Students of Patna University (PU) today requested Governor Devanand Konwar to intervene and ensure that MEd final-year examination results werw published as soon as possible.

The examination was conducted in June this year. Sources said despite repeated requests, the university has not yet published the results. The delay has deprived the students of applying for private sector jobs.

A joint delegation of PU students and Youth Congress members met the governor — who is also the chancellor of state universities — at Raj Bhavan this afternoon and submitted a memorandum to him. They also requested him to approve the syllabus on which the MEd examination was conducted.

Gayatri Agarwal, one of the students, said: “The exams ended on July 4. The results have not been declared yet. As a result, we can’t apply either for jobs or for the National Eligibility Test or pre-PhD registration test.”

She added: “When we approached the university authorities, they told us that they had prepared the results and it had been sent to the Raj Bhavan for the signature of the chancellor.”

The 2010-11 session had started in December last year after a five-month delay. Sources said PU had sent the new syllabus to the Raj Bhavan after getting approval from the varsity academic council. The governor is, however, yet to give his consent.

Asked why the results have been delayed, PU examination controller Binay Soren said: “The results have been delayed because Raj Bhavan is yet to give its consent to the regulation which deals with examinations.”

Call for research

Patna University (PU) vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh has appealed to teachers and students to concentrate their efforts to boost research in the varsity.

Singh today chaired a meeting with the heads of various social science departments. He urged them to encourage the students and teachers to concentrate on research. He also gave his consent to various proposals. According to PU norms, the postgraduate research meeting has to be held every two months. The last meeting of the council — before today — was held eight months back.

Later, Singh told The Telegraph: “From next year, we will implement the University Grants Commission (UGC) norms for PhD. We have started the preparations.”

Sources said the UGC has asked PU to implement its norms. With the introduction of the guidelines, it would be difficult for students to get the degree.
