As Patna hosts devotees from across the world celebrating the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, a girl was born on Monday in the Kangan Ghat tent city set up for pilgrims in Guru ki Nagri Patna City.

Preeti Prem Singh Bhatia, a resident of Pandi Madu village in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, took the pain of travelling almost 900km spending 10 hours in a train to reach Patna in her ninth month of pregnancy.

"She took the risk only because of devotion towards Guru Gobindji," said her husband Paramjeet Singh.Around 3.30am on Monday, Preeti, 25, went into labour and doctors deputed at the tent city immediately gave her medical assistance. In a normal delivery Preeti gave birth to a girl around 4am and immediately named her Kangana.

"Though it was my ninth month, I decided to come to the durbar of Guru Gobind Singh. I feel blessed that my girl was born at Guru ki Nagri. This is my first child. I have named her Kangana on the ghat's name. The ghat has a significance in Guru Gobind Singh's life," said Preeti, who has been shifted to a Hajiganj-based accommodation, as the baby could not have been kept in the tent city for health conditions.

Legend has it that Guru Gobind Singh had thrown his gold bangle at the Kangan Ghat and later thousands of gold bangles were found at the river ghat. Guru Gobind Singh often visited the ghat with his friends.

Sources said soon after the girl was born, Preeti was taken to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital. The baby was admitted in doctor A.K. Ansari's unit. While hospital gynaecologist Premlata checked Preeti, paediatrician Arvind Kumar examined the baby. "The baby has been vaccinated," said Arvind.

Hospital superintendent Mukesh Kumar Kashyap said it was a special moment for the hospital because no one ever imagined something of this sort would happen during the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.

"The baby is special because she was born in the tent city. I purchased new clothes for her. Whatever follow-up treatment is required for the baby and her mother it would be provided," he said.

The hospital has provided the birth certificate of the baby to Preeti's family. Husband Paramjeet praised the Bihar government for prompt medical arrangements in the tent city. "It's commendable that the administration helped Preeti in pulling off a normal delivery. A state-of-the-art ambulance is here to provide assistance in case of emergencies of devotees. Nitish Kumar has done a great job. We cannot even think of such arrangements in Punjab," said Paramjeet, a businessman.

Soon after Kangana was born, there were celebrations in the tent city. "Devotees broke into a bhangra jig. People offered sweets to each other. People are happy that a little bundle of joy was born in Guru ki Nagri," Paramjeet said.

Komal Singh, who was in the same Kangan Ghat tent city with the Bhatias, said: "The child is Guru Gobind's blessings. What can be happier than a child taking birth in Guru's birthplace."
