Patna, March 15: Noted art critic and curator Nanak Ganguly today took students of College of Arts & Crafts on a journey of history of art.
Ganguly visited Rang Vikalp’s Rang Aakar camp on the college premise and presented a slide show on paintings from the 18th century till now.
The art work varied from early oil paintings to contemporary ones of Santiniketan.
In his slide show, Ganguly acquainted visitors to the different form of paintings evolved over the time like early oil paintings, company paintings, which started during the British Raj, Kalighat painting, Chitpur woodcut prints of the 19th century, the paintings from Neo Bengal school and Santiniketan.
Ganguly also spoke on contemporary art forms and manifested that it has witnessed a drastic change over the time.
“Today the language of art has totally changed. Earlier, in an art college, students used to leave space for showing white colour on the canvas but today they use colour for it. This is a completely different way of looking at art.” he said.
When asked about the attributes needed in good art, he said: “We always go by the marking system. That is wrong. One has to do his work honestly so that others can draw inspiration from it.”
