Patna, June 26: Bihar Art Theatre turned 50 over the weekend and residents of the city are in for a five-day celebration.
Kickstarting the event, a situational comedy that left the audience in splits, Bin Dulhan ki Shaadi, was staged at Kalidas Rangalaya on Saturday.
The one-and-a-half-hour play narrates the story of two lovebirds — Pranjal and Kini — and shows how Pranjal manages to keep his father’s condition to get married to Kini within 24 hours even though the girl fails to reach Pranjal’s mess in the city in time. The antics and performance of Manik, a servant at the mess, kept the audience on the edge of their seats.
Ajit Bhai Theatrewala, a senior theatre artiste who played Kini’s father, mathematics teacher Panchanan, said: “Initially, I was nervous but I managed once I got on the stage.”
Ajit, Kumar Anupam, who played the mess manager, and Arun Kumar Sinha, another senior artiste, returned to the stage after a decade.
Ajit, who is also the additional secretary of the theatre, said: “The Bihar Art Theatre was born on June 25, 1961. The celebrations will continue till June 29.”
A play on women empowerment, Kathputli, is on the cards for today, while a mime show is scheduled for Monday.
