Bhagalpur, Jan. 27: Asserting that the state was growing leaps and bounds on agro produce, agriculture minister Narendra Singh today emphasised on more food-processing units for the benefit of the farmers.
“We are emerging number-one in litchi production, second in mango and third in vegetable production in the country but the farmers do not get to enjoy their due profit because of lack of market and enough food-processing units here,” Singh said at a workshop on the “Prospect of food-processing industries in the state”, organised by Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, and Eastern Bihar Industries Associations on the varsity campus. He also said the state government wishes to give top priority to increase the agriculture output in Bihar.
“China had the world record of producing 190 quintal paddy in one hectare land but the farmers in Bihar have broken the record by producing 225 quintal paddy on the same area by adopting the system of rice intensification technique this year,” Singh said.
