Patna: The Acid Survivors and Women Welfare Foundation on Monday launched a campaign against acid violence in Bihar and established its seventh chapter here to provide support to victims.
Sushma Agrawal, the Bihar chapter president, said: "Total 47 incidents of acid attacks had been reported in Bihar from 2010 to 2016. Our objective is the prevention of acid attacks, including all forms of gender violence."
She added that the NGO wants to establish a psycho-social burn and rehabilitation centre in Bihar to provide adequate compensation, medical treatment and legal advice to acid-attack victims.
"Their rehabilitation, skill development and social integration are important to eliminate the social stigma associated with their injuries," she said. "Acid victims can approach our NGO through the all-India helpline (9007612727)."
