Patna, April 9: Police today claimed to have arrested Chotu, member of a group that had killed 22-year-old Abhishek alias Rocky at a park in Rajendra Nagar late last evening.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said the murder was fallout of an emity between the two. The police said they were looking for Roshan, the main accused who had allegedly stabbed Abhishek.

"The incident occurred around 8.30pm at a park near Rajendra Nagar, Road No. 6. Abhishek and his friends were sitting in the park when a group of five approached them. Among them were Chotu, Roshan and Om Prakash. An altercation followed after which Roshan stabbed Abhishek. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead," the SSP said.

The cops said Abhishek, who studied in a Hyderabad-based college used to stay alone in Patna at the Lalji Tola area. "His family hails from Vaishali. Apparently, Abhishek used to spend a lot of money leading to envy among Chotu and his group. After Chotu saw Abhishek in the park, he alerted his friends. Om Prakash handed a knife to Roshan, who stabbed him," the SSP added.

Gangsters in net

Police claimed they had arrested three members of the Sambhu-Mantu gang involved in extorting money from contractors of the central public works department (CPWD).

"Ranjit Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Anil Yadav are close associates of Sambhu and Mantu. Ranjit used to work at the Patna CPWD office and keep an eye on the contractors. Whenever a contract was to be awarded, he used to inform Sambhu and Mantu. The gang then used to send contractors backed by them to terrorise and clinch the deal. Of late, gangs specifically involved in targeting getting central and state government contractors have reared their heads. The arrests are a big breakthrough," Maharaaj said.

The cops also claimed of having nabbed three criminals - Kamlesh Paswan, Ravi Ranjan and Lallan Kumar - members of a gang involved in looting people and vehicles on the highways.

The police said the three were being interrogated for more information.
