Houston: A 34-year-old man convicted of killing an Indian-origin businessman in 2004 was executed in Texas on Tuesday evening despite a clemency appeal from the victim's son.
Christopher Young, who was a member of a gang, had shot at Hasmukh "Hash" Patel while trying to rob his mini-mart and dry cleaner's store in San Antonio, Texas. Patel, 50, died of the injury.
Young, 21 at the time of the incident, was sentenced to die by a local court in February 2006. He was executed days after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles unanimously rejected his clemency appeal. Young's aunt and lawyers had launched a campaign to seek clemency for him last month. Patel's son Mitesh, 36, had supported the campaign, The Texas Tribune reported.
Mitesh had told the parole board that Young's death sentence should be reduced to a jail term. PTI
