A homemaker was allegedly electrocuted by her in-laws for dowry in Nadia’s Bhimpur on Tuesday night.

The victim’s eight-year-old daughter reportedly informed her maternal grandparents that her paternal grandfather and grandmother killed her mother with a live electric wire.

Victim Mohsina Biwi, 29, was reportedly tied up and hooked to a live wire allegedly by her father-in-law Khodabaux Mondal and his wife Rahima Biwi at the family home in Danga village.

She was left like that for an hour until some relatives took her to Chapra rural hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Sources said the in-laws on Wednesday morning informed the victim's parents that she had been accidentally electrocuted.

Her husband Samad, who is a migrant worker in Kerala, was not at home when the incident happened. They got married 10 years ago.

Police have started a suo motu murder case on the basis of circumstantial evidence. However, no arrests were made as of Wednesday evening. Police said that the in-laws were absconding.

Mohsina’s family, who live in the Padmamala of Chapra, have alleged “planned murder” for dowry.

“For the past 10 years, Mohsina suffered torture as her in-laws kept on demanding dowry,” said the victim's sister-in-law Julekha Sultana Mondal, adding they wanted a bike, cash and jewellery.

She said that on Wednesday at 5am, Mohsina's father received a call from neighbours of her in-laws who told them Mohsina had an “accident” and was taken to hospital. He reportedly found her dead with multiple injuries and burn marks on the body.
