Wallet stolen at store

A young software developer has alleged that her wallet containing Rs 18,000 and two debit cards was stolen at Shoppers Stop in City Centre Salt Lake last Sunday.

A young software developer has alleged that her wallet containing Rs 18,000 and two debit cards was stolen at Shoppers Stop in City Centre Salt Lake last Sunday.

Tishya Sengupta, 27, who was at the store with her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, mentioned in her complaint that she noticed that her wallet was missing when she arrived in front of a cash counter on the ground floor of the shopping address to pay.

The police said they have sought CCTV footage from the store and have questioned some employees. None was arrested till late on Tuesday.

"An employee of a chaat centre outside the mall allegedly found the wallet lying outside his shop on Monday evening but it was empty," an officer of Bidhannagar North police station said.

"We have started an investigation and questioned some of the employees. We are also scanning the CCTV footage and trying to identify the thief."

Sengupta, a resident of Ultadanga and an employee of a multinational IT firm in Sector V, said: "While paying for a dress at a ground-floor counter, I looked for my wallet and discovered that it was missing."

Shoppers Stop officials said they are aware of the complaint and helping the police in their investigation. "We cannot make any comment as the matter is under investigation. We are helping the police in every possible way," said Salil Kumar Bal, customer care associate and head, unit administration and maintenance.
