Two killed in DSP gas leak

Two contract workers died and two more developed breathing problems after inhaling blast furnace gas that leaked from a pipeline at Durgapur Steel Plant's Coke Oven unit early on Monday.

Durgapur: Two contract workers died and two more developed breathing problems after inhaling blast furnace gas that leaked from a pipeline at Durgapur Steel Plant's Coke Oven unit early on Monday.

The deceased were Samir Chakraborty, 50, and Sheikh Hapijul, 31.

Sources said Chakraborty and Hapijul, along with two others, were at the restroom at Coke Oven unit when they inhaled the gas around 1.15am.

All the four became unconscious and were rushed to the plant's medical unit and later to DSP Hospital where Chakraborty and Hapijul died.
