Airport: Two Bangladeshi women who had arrived in Bengal on July 21 allegedly got fake Aadhaar cards in two days and were to fly to Delhi to collect fake Indian passports, police said on Tuesday.

The two and another woman were arrested at Calcutta airport on Monday evening.

"Tanjila and Mastura, the Bangladeshi women, and Taslima were to board a 8.50pm flight to Delhi. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officers detained them while they were entering the airport around 7pm," an officer said.

"According to the fake Aadhaar card Tanjila was carrying, she was Sadhna Bibi from Barasat in North 24-Parganas. Mastura was identified in her fake document as Parveena Bishash from Delhi. They were on their way to Dubai to work as domestic help."

Taslima, whose Aadhaar card seemed genuine, was allegedly escorting the duo.

The accused had produced the "Aadhaar cards" as identity proof while entering the terminal building through gate number 3A. The CISF personnel at the gate got suspicious while checking the documents of Tanjila and Mastura.

"The documents, especially the way the photographs had been printed on them, looked forged," an officer said.

The two were detained. They allegedly told officers during interrogation that they were from Sylhet in Bangladesh. Both apparently said poverty had forced them to look for jobs in Dubai.

The three were handed over to police. Officers said they were looking for the racket that had arranged the fake Aadhaar cards.
