Southern Avenue: Trinamul MP Kalyan Banerjee had a close shave when a taxi hit his vehicle on Friday morning.

Around 7.20am, Banerjee was returning home after his morning walk at the Rabindra Sarovar. Police said Banerjee was driving his SUV when a taxi hit him from the opposite direction.

He was waiting near the Southern Avenue-Sarat Bose Road crossing when the taxi jumped signal and hit his vehicle, the police said.

Banerjee banged against the steering on impact as the vehicle rammed into the railing along the footpath, the police said.

Cops on duty took him to Belle Vue Clinic. Banerjee complained of chest pain at the time of admission, a hospital official said.

"We have done several investigations... no internal or external injuries could be detected," Pradip Tondon, CEO of the hospital, said.

The taxi driver has been arrested for "rash and negligent" driving.
