Rock and soul Fusion music lovers never had it this good before. Legendary British rock band Jethro Tull, which has evolved from being a progressive rock act to an experimental group with elements of jazz, classical and folk sounds is collaborating for the first time with sitarist Anoushka Shankar. Ian Anderson, the head of the rock band, and Shankar are visiting India on a five-city tour, performing live with The Piper and the Princess, a remarkable concert hosted by Blender and 100 Pipers. Besides tonight’s performance in the city, which kick-starts the tour, the concert is also slated to mesmerise audiences in Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The shows storming the country will bring together the magical, soulful sounds of Shankar’s sitar with the jazz, blues and folksy tunes of Anderson.The duet concert will feature the two artistes playing on each other’s compositions with audiences even getting to hear some new tunes, written especially for the tour. And if that’s not all, some breathtaking on-the-spot improvisations are also on the cards.
