The East Calcutta Photographic Association has been organising the All India Photography Exhibition every year since 1961. This year, the golden jubilee of the exhibition will be celebrated over three days from December 24 to 26. The celebrations, titled Golden Jubilee Salon 2010, will be inaugurated by filmmaker Goutam Ghose at Gaganendra Pradarshashala at 4 pm on Friday. Minister for information and cultural affairs, Soumendra Nath Bera, will be the chief guest. A five-member panel of renowned photographers selected 149 photographers for the exhibition in three sections — Monochrome Pictorial Print, Colour Pictorial Print and Photo Travel Colour Print. Out of these, 12 individual prizes and six certificates of merit will be awarded. Avijit De of Barackpore has been judged the Grand Best photographer of the salon for his portrait Ria, H. Satish from Bangalore has won the Best Landscape Award for his picture Paradise and S.R. Patel from Ahmedabad will be awarded a plaque for his picture Rear Window. Bidyut Goswami and Somnath Roy Dey are the winners of the ECPA Plaque in the travel category. Chhanda Paul and H.S. Byakod are among the certificate winners. The other notable contributors to the exhibition are K.G. Maheshwari from Mumbai, Bhudev Bhagat from Jamshedpur and Ajit Mondal from Calcutta. A seminar on photography and the prize distribution ceremony will be held on Sunday at 5 pm at Paschim Banga Bangla Academy Hall. Photographer H. Satish, Tushar Kanti Dutta, Shivaji Ghosh, B.P. Maity and Biswatosh Sengupta are the speakers at the seminar.
