Feminine moods and emotions
As part of its Horizon Series, Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR Calcutta presents Emotions from Kerala, featuring a solo Mohiniyattam recital by Mom Ganguly. Having received her initial training in dance from Shakti Nag, she later trained in Bharata Natyam and Mohiniyattam under Thankamani Kutty and Bharati Shivaji. She is also involved in the promotion of indigenous dance forms of north-east India, in association with the ministry of culture, government of Tripura. Her performance this evening will begin with an invocatory item, Ganapati Stuti, set to raga Arabhi, tala Adi. This will be followed by a pure dance item, Mukhachalam, in raga Shuruti, tala Malika. The two abhinaya items in her repertoire are a padam, Omanathingal by poet Irayaman Thampi, and Jaydev’s famous Ashtapadi from Geet Govindam, Lalita Labangalata.
