Strings of unity To celebrate the 61st anniversary of Independence, Airtel hosts a unique event of Indian and World music, Unity Concert, with performances by artistes of stringed instruments. This collaborative ensemble features musicians of India and abroad. With its concept and music composed by sitarist Purbayan Chatterjee and arranged by Atul Raninga (Mumbai), it involves performances of western and classical compositions by renowned musicians of the country. Showcasing a marvellous blend of Indian music with world music, the concert promises to rouse the passion of the audience, besides invoking a spirit of patriotism and universal brotherhood. With artistes from Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Calcutta among Indian participants, the performers from the host city include Purbayan Chatterjee, The Violin Brothers (Deb Shankar and Jyoti Shankar), percussionist Subhankar Banerjee and artistes from Indian Strings and Calcutta School of Music. Participants from abroad include Spanish guitarist Eduardo Niebla (UK) and Jazz player Kunle Ayo (South Africa). The evening will end with patriotic songs by chief guest Jagjit Singh (picture here) and rendition of the national anthem.
