THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED AT OLD MAX MUELLER ADDRESS

Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan said “Auf Wiedersehen” to 8, Ballygunge Circular Road, home to the cultural institute for the last 50 years, with a final performance by singer and filmmaker Anjan Dutt (below right) and musician Amyt Datta (below left) at its auditorium on Thursday evening. “For nearly 50 years now Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan has been synonymous with the address 8 Ballygunge Circular Road. Since last Monday the doors have been closed here and we will be shifting to Park Mansions from next Monday (May 15),” said Friso Maecker, the director of Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. “Goethe-Institut was always and will also in the future always be a place where people from different cultures and different walks of life meet, exchange and participate in mutual learning,” said Friso. Anjan Dutt performed snippets from two plays that he had staged at the auditorium in Max Mueller Bhavan, one in the 1980s and the other in 2012, and performed a few songs with Amyt Datta on the guitar.
