Airport water supply hit

The airport’s washrooms did not have water for half an hour on Sunday morning. Airport officials said the taps went dry in the passenger area of the new terminal, that became operational in March, from 8.30am to 9am. The water supply was stalled after a snag developed in the pumping system. According to the sources, several passengers complained to airlines about lack of water in the washrooms. The snag was repaired around 9am.

Fatal accident

Garia resident Kaushik Dutta Roy, 36, died after the motorcycle he was riding was knocked down by a truck driving down a wrong lane near Mecheda, on NH 41, on Sunday morning. The two others on the bike — Kuntal Saha and Dibyendu Chakraborty — were injured. The trio were on their way to Digha.

Suicide

The wife of constable Nageshwar Ram of the mounted police killed herself by hanging at the police quarters on Diamond Harbour Road. Police said Gita Devi, 50, had been suffering from depression because of her husband’s alcohol addiction. Ram is absconding.

Death

An unidentified man died after being hit by a train between Dum Dum and Belghoria stations on Sunday morning.

Former shooter

Shobhita Chatterjee, a five-time national shooting champion, died on Sunday afternoon. She was 95 and is survived by two sons, one of whom is India’s national shooting coach Amitabha Chatterjee. Chatterjee represented India in a world championship in Germany in 1966.
