Chhatra Parishad (CP) and Trinamul Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) members clashed over opening of a unit of the Congress’ student wing on the BT Road campus of Rabindra Bharati University on Monday afternoon. ahul Ray, the state president of CP, alleged that TMCP state secretary Sujit Sam and his supporters had assaulted a member of the Congress wing when they went to meet vice-chancellor Chinmay Guha. When other CP members tried to rescue their friend, they were also beaten up, alleged Ray.he TMCP, however, denied the charges and complained that CP members had ransacked their union room.engal Congress chief Pradip Bhattacharya has written to chief secretary Samar Ghosh requesting him to take action against those involved in “unleashing terror” on CP members.

RBU posts

Rabindra Bharati University has postponed interviews for the post of assistant teachers in Bengali, scheduled between March 20 and 22, for re-scrutinising applications. Vice-chancellor Chinmay Guha said fresh dates would be announced soon.

Bike thieves

Seven men were arrested on Sunday night for allegedly snatching motorcycles at gunpoint and smuggling them to Banglasdesh. The gang was also involved in drug peddling across the border, said police.

Suicide

A 19-year-old student was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room in his Survey Park home on Monday afternoon. Abhishek Jana, who had passed his Class XII examination from a south Calcutta school, was declared dead when taken to hospital.

Kidnap bid

Class V and VI students Rajani Khatoon and Ariful Khatoon, who were allegedly forced into an Ambassador on their way to school in Bishnupur on Monday morning, were rescued by pedestrians who intercepted the car after hearing the students scream. The driver managed to flee but another person present in the car was caught and handed over to police.

Robbers held

Eight robbers were arrested on NH6 near Dhulagarh toll plaza in Howrah late on Sunday. The gang had assembled for a robbery when a police patrol team spotted them, said cops.
