Lifer’s art bought

Pailan Group chairman Apurba Saha has bought two paintings from an exhibition by Chandan Chandra at Gallery Gold. Metro had carried a report (Canvas of hope, April 5) on Chandra’s dream coming true. “I am glad I could help,” said Saha after handing over a cheque of Rs 30,000 to Chandan’s wife on Wednesday. Gallery curator Reshmi Chatterjee said she was happy “people are coming forward to help Chandan and his family”.

Kids injured

Narayan Singh, 5, and Yash Malpani, 6, suffered cuts on their lips and legs when the driver of their pool car slammed the brakes to avoid colliding with a bus in Salkia, Howrah, on Wednesday afternoon. The car’s door was open and the students fell on the road. The driver was speeding.

Stolen gem

Police recovered a stolen solitaire diamond worth around Rs 20 lakh from a gem merchant in Burrabazar. A domestic help of Ajit Khaitan stole the diamond from his Alipore Road house on February 11. The help, Tilak Yadav of Giridih, sold the solitaire in Jharkhand and a diamond dealer from Burrabazar later bought it. Yadav is on the run.

Murder arrest

Sambhunath Haldar, 36, one of the accused in the murder of Adhir Maity, was arrested from Subodh Mullick Square on Wednesday. Maity of the Trinamul died allegedly after being assaulted by councillor Sambhu Nath Kow in Dhapa on March 20.

Fire safety

All markets in the city will have to install circuit-breakers, municipal commissioner Khalil Ahmed said. The breakers prevent fires triggered by short circuit when load exceeds capacity.
