Crack on railway track repaired

A fracture was detected on a track between Bidhannagar Road and Dum Dum Junction stations of Eastern Railway’s Sealdah division on Tuesday morning, a day after a Rajdhani Express’s engine was derailed near Baruipara in Hooghly. Railway gangman Promotho Halder, who was checking the tracks, detected the crack and alerted the authorities. Services were not disrupted because of the crack, rail officials said. The crack was repaired at 10.25 am.

Trader held

Jorabagan police arrested Ram Jaiswal in Benaras after Ravi Shankar Agarwal, a wholesale dealer in pulses, lodged a complaint alleging that Jaiswal had duped him of Rs 16.76 lakh. Jaiswal was brought to the city later in the day.

Goons arrested

Mohammed Shabbir and Mohammed Imtiaz were arrested near the Wipro building in Salt Lake Sector V late on Monday on the charge of illegal possession of firearms. Police seized two country-made revolvers from them. The two were on Tuesday remanded in judicial custody till September 14.

Drivers’ demand

The Nationalist Drivers’ Welfare Association, a forum for drivers of rental cars, have demanded better pay and other facilities from the state government.
