Singur, Dec. 24: Twenty-four youths from families whose land has been acquired for Tata Motors here will take a test tomorrow for a possible place in the new car plant.
The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) will conduct the three-hour written test and interview for the industrial training institute (ITI) diploma holders. “Those selected will be sent to Pune for training in the first week of January,” industries director M.V. Rao said.
They will be the first batch of technical assistants for the plant from where the Tatas have promised to roll out the Rs 1-lakh car by 2008.
WBIDC had announced the test, especially for families affected by the land acquisition, in September and officials said applications for various kinds of jobs have “poured in” since.
The candidates for tomorrow’s test were selected on the basis of their performance at ITI, an official added.
