Science City: Two teenagers, including a minor, fell off the scooter they were riding after being hit by a truck from behind and were run over by another goods vehicle near the Mathpukur crossing on EM Bypass early on Wednesday.
Police said Kasif Warsi, 16, and Mohammad Kalimuddin, 19, were not wearing helmets. The minor was driving the two-wheeler.
They were taken to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, where they were declared dead.
The accident occurred when the two, residents of the Topsia Road area, were returning home around 3.45am.
CCTV cameras installed at the Mathpukur crossing captured the accident. "The Scooty was hit by the truck on the Ruby Hospital-bound flank of the Bypass. Kasif and Kalimuddin fell in the middle of the road after being hit by the truck. Before they could get up, another truck plying towards Ruby ran over them," an officer of Pragati Maidan police station said.
The policemen deployed nearby rushed to the spot and intercepted the two trucks. The drivers have been booked for "causing death due to negligence".
The police said Kasif, being a minor, was not authorised to drive.
"They took the advantage of poor surveillance during late hours," the officer said.
Road death
An 18-year-old boy was killed and a 21-year-old youth injured when their bikes collided at the Casuarina Avenue-Kidderpore Road crossing on Tuesday. Neither was wearing a helmet, the police said.
