Stamp for teachers' body
• CALCUTTA: The postal department on Saturday unveiled a stamp bearing the logo of the West Bengal Government School Teachers' Association to commemorate the golden jubilee of the organisation at a programme held at Sakhawat Memorial Govt. Girls' High School.
App cab accident
• BENTINCK STREET: A police case was started against an app cab driver on Saturday for allegedly hitting a pedestrian at the crossing of Central Avenue and Bentinck Street. Police said Samir Bhattacharjee, 59, a resident of Khardah, was standing at the crossing on Friday afternoon when the car hit him. Bhattacharjee suffered a fracture, the police said.
SSKM spark
• SSKM HOSPITAL: A spark was noticed near a tubelight on the first floor of the eye OPD building at SSKM Hospital on Saturday morning. Hospital officials alerted the fire brigade but the spark was doused even before the fire tenders arrived.
IPS officers transferred
• Calcutta: Santosh Pandey, a 2006-batch IPS officer, currently posted as deputy commissioner (headquarters) in the Bidhannagar commissionerate, will be the special superintendent of police (coordination, South 24-Parganas), Alipore. Amit P. Javalgi from the same batch, currently posted as commandant, state armed police, eighth battalion, will replace him. Sunil Choudhary, a 2004-batch IPS officer, posted as SSP (coordination, South 24-Parganas), will be the joint commissioner in the Siliguri commissionerate. Parul Kush Jain, a 2004-batch IPS officer, posted as commandant, state armed police, third battalion, will be the deputy inspector general, personnel.
Railway ticket drive
sealdah: At least 42,000 people were found travelling without tickets during a drive conducted by Eastern Railway from October 20 to 26. More than Rs 87 lakh was collected in fines.
Trains rescheduled
sealdah: The Up Sealdah-Ajmer Express will leave at 9.15am on Sunday instead of 10.55pm on Saturday as the corresponding down train is running late, an Eastern Railway official said. The Up Himgiri Express will leave at 6.35am on Sunday instead of 11.55pm on Saturday because of late arrival of the corresponding down train.
Meter box fire
• Jadavpur: A fire broke out in the electric meter box on the ground floor of a three-storey building near Dhakuria Kalibari around 12.05pm on Saturday. Two fire engines doused the fire in half an hour. Police said no one was injured.
Rash driving
• Beleghata: Two passengers of an autorickshaw were injured when the three-wheeler overturned in Beleghata on Friday. A case of rash and negligent driving has been started against the Rajesh Das.
