Also, the BSF has conducted raids in a number of bordering areas under the north Bengal frontier of the force and have seized a number of contraband items including cattle and narcotics. The cost of the seized items is Rs 6.99 lakh, the BSF sources said.

In Malda, a youth was arrested after fake Indian currency notes to the tune of Rs 20,000 and a firearm were recovered from him. “Farooque Khan, a resident of Jadupur-Majhatola village, was carrying 40 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination and a pipe-gun,” said a police officer.

E-rickshaw owner

Ranjan Roy, an e-rickshaw owner in North Dinajpur, has been detained and his vehicle seized for his alleged involvement in a blast that had occurred on Friday afternoon.

Last Friday, Ranjan had delivered a parcel in a local pharmacy. Later, as Bablu Choudhury, the pharmacy’s owner, had opened the parcel it had exploded. Choudhury and two others had sustained injuries and are still under treatment.

After the incident, police had started probing the case and detained Ranjan on Sunday. During preliminary investigation, the police came to know that two youths had approached Ranjan with the parcel and had asked him to deliver it to the pharmacy.

“We are trying to find out whether he is concealing any information. Simultaneously, our men are trying to trace the duo who had apparently handed over the parcel to the e-rickshaw owner,” said a police officer.
