Balurghat, July 15: A Class XI student slapped the assistant headmaster of his school for asking him to return to his classroom.

The student has been suspended and an FIR lodged against him at the Balurghat police station. The complaint was lodged after the 16-year-old boy went to the police to file an FIR against the teacher alleging that it was he who was slapped.

The secretary of the managing committee of Nalanda Vidyapith, Subhas Saha, said two Class IX boys got into a fisticuff in school yesterday and one of them got a bloody nose as a result. He was taken to the district hospital.

Today, the school authorities called the guardians of both the boys. The injured boy’s grandmother came to school to meet the teachers.

Saha said the Class XI student approached the grandmother and asked her to claim compensation for the injured boy’s treatment.

“At this point of time, assistant headmaster Sukumar Das was passing by and heard what was going on. He told the Class XI student to return to the classroom. Das chided the student for his behaviour and the boy suddenly turned around and slapped the teacher,” Saha said.

After the incident, the teachers’ council decided to suspend the student “until further notice”. “When the teacher-in-charge of the school, Mihir Kumar Sarkar, informed the committee’s decision to the student, the boy headed straight to the police station and wanted to file a complaint against Das. The police refused to take the complaint and asked for a medical report to buttress his claim,” Saha said.

The teachers’ council informed the managing committee about the incident and an FIR was lodged against the student. His parents have also been summoned to school tomorrow.

The inspector-in-charge of the police station, Dharmadeb Chatterjee, said an investigation is on and the student would be questioned.
