Chief minister Mamata Banerjee felicitates businessman Satyajit Chakraborty, who had in April rescued a newborn from a Sukanta Setu footpath in Jadavpur. The felicitation was part of the Calcutta police investiture ceremony. Metro had on April 23 reported how Chakraborty, 48, a resident of Garfa, had found the baby boy wrapped in plastic on the footpath. Crows were trying to nibble at his body that still had the umbilical cord attached. Chakraborty immediately took the baby to hospital, where he was treated and nurtured for two weeks before being sent to a home. The baby - named Jishu at the hospital - was eventually adopted by a childless couple. 'How I wish I could hold him in my arms once today,' said an emotional Chakraborty, the father of a teenage daughter. Four others were felicitated on the occasion - Md Afzal, Arindam Majumdar, Ashok Patro and Asadullah Khan.Picture by Pradip Sanyal
