BBD Bag: Pre-paid taxi fares from the airport and railway stations have been raised in keeping with the recent hike in meter rates.
A pre-paid taxi ride from the airport to Ballygunge Phari now costs Rs 375, up from Rs 310. The new pre-paid fare for a ride to Shyambazar in north Calcutta is Rs 210. The old fare was Rs 180.
The government has revised pre-paid taxi fares across all slabs for up to 38km in and around Calcutta. The last time these fares had been revised was in 2013.
The new fares took effect on Tuesday evening . All pre-paid taxi counters, including at Howrah and Sealdah railway stations, will follow the same rates.
The fare chart for pre-paid taxis has been divided into slabs depending on distance. Every slab comprises 2km for a maximum ride of 20km. Beyond that, each slab goes up to 3km.
A pre-paid taxi ride up to 2km would earlier cost Rs 50. The starting rate has been raised to Rs 55.
The new slab-wise fares has been released in the form of a notification issued by Biswajit Dutta, the commissioner of the state transport department.
The fare chart contains 16 slabs, starting from a ride of up to 2km till a distance of 38km.
