Plots in New Town are available again. The Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) has initiated a lottery to distribute 75 plots among individuals and proposed co-operatives. Plots will be allotted on 99 years’ leasehold basis. Applications are being accepted online since Tuesday. The last date for application is April 30, 2017.
Another 25 plots will be auctioned online in April.

The announcement was made at a programme at the SBI auditorium at the Book Fair on Monday where urban development minister Firhad Hakim released nine information booklets on various Hidco projects. “After a long time, after overcoming many complications we are able to offer housing space to common people. A unique facility of this process is unsuccessful applicants will not have to run around seeking a refund of the application amount. It will be transferred directly to the account from which it was paid through electronic transfer by ICICI Bank,” said the minister.

The plots are in Action Area 2B between Akankha More and Owl Crossing, opposite gate no. 3 and 4 of Eco Park. Between 3 and 4 cottahs in size, they are designated separately for middle income and high income groups. “The plots to be auctioned are slightly bigger,” said Hidco managing director Debashis Sen.

According to official sources, about 10,000 plots have been sold in New Town since 2002.

Nazrul archive

A digital archive will be set up at Nazrul Tirtha. All out-of-print books scattered in various old libraries in the city and the suburbs on Nazrul Islam will be digitised.

Other than Nazrul’s own books and  magazines he edited and those on him, the archive will include manuscripts, notations of his songs, letters written by and to him, advertisements, booklets on his records, scripts of plays which use his songs or poems and copies of the All India Radio journal Betar Jagat when he was an employee there.

The archive will have an audio-visual section where all recorded Nazrulgeetis, films by Nazrul and interviews of Nazrul scholars will be preserved.

Sen announced the commencement of work on the digital archive, which will be part of the Nazrul library being set up there.
