Siliguri, May 25: Filing of nomination for the elections to the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad and three-tier panchayats, scheduled for June 28, will begin on Thursday, although the model code of conduct comes into force a day earlier.
“We have discussed various issues related to panchayat polls and the preparations for the elections to the mahakuma parishad area,” Surendra Gupta, the district magistrate of Darjeeling, said after a meeting with officials of the Siliguri subdivision here today.
According to Gupta, nomination papers can be filed till June 3. The scrutiny of the documents will be done on June 5 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 8.
Counting of votes is likely to be on July 1, a source said.
The elections to the Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong municipalities are also scheduled to be held on June 28.
