Nobel laureate Amartya Sen on Thursday spoke to chief minister Mamata Banerjee about her health.

On Tuesday, Mamata suffered ligament injuries to her knee and hip joint while alighting from her chopper after an emergency landing near Siliguri.

A source said Sen was trying to reach out to the chief minister after he came to know of her injuries.

"After she (Mamata) came to know that Professor Sen was trying to contact her, she got in touch with him and spoke to him. The call lasted for a few minutes during which Professor Sen sought updates on her condition and wished her a speedy recovery. Mamata informed him about her present health condition and thanked him for enquiring about her health," said a source close to Sen.

Economist Sen reached his ancestral home Pratichi in Santiniketan on Tuesday. He is likely to spend around two weeks there.

Following Tuesday's ordeal, Mamata has been advised to rest for a few days. She is also undergoing physiotherapy.

However, sources close to her said she is keen to resume her political and administrative activities as soon as possible.

Sen, a source said, apparently told Mamata not to rush back to her hectic life before proper healing.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD national president Lalu Prasad also called up Mamata to enquire about her health and wish her a quick recovery.

Mamata on Thursday afternoon tweeted about her present health status and thanked people for their good wishes.

"I am deeply touched by everyone's well wishes for my health. I had a close call the day before yesterday when the helicopter made an emergency landing on Sevoke Airbase. With Almighty's benevolence and dedicated efforts of the medical team, I am recuperating and undergoing physiotherapy sessions at home," Mamata wrote on her Twitter handle before wishing people on the occasion of Id and Ulta Rath.
