Named Patsan Bhawan, the complex would come up near NBCC Vibgyor Towers.

“The jute industry directly provides livelihood to 40 lakh families. We are trying to give this industry a boost and ensure that it becomes self-reliant. We have received help from the state government too,” said Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Union minister of state for textiles, after unveiling the foundation stone at Rabindra Tirtha on September 1. Patsan Bhawan will be under the ministry of textiles.

Patsan Bhawan would come up on a plot of around 1.5 acres and have nine storeys besides a basement. It would house offices of the jute commissioner, National Jute Board, National Jute Manufactures Corporation and Jute Corporation of India. There would be two conference halls, a textile museum and shops on the ground floor. The space surrounding the building would host exhibitions and promotional events

“While details have not been chalked out, we would encourage shops that sell diversified jute products such as office files, suitcases and shopping bags made of jute,” said jute commissioner Subrata Gupta.

Being built by the National Jute Board at a cost of Rs 70 crore, Patsan Bhawan would be a “green building” and generate solar power through a plant of 45kw capacity. It is expected to get a 4-star rating from Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA).
