Tamluk, March 30: The assistant public prosecutor of Haldia court has written to the government for withdrawal of about a dozen “false cases” filed during the Nandigram land protest.

“The assistant public prosecutor of Haldia feels that a number of cases in Nandigram have no merit. So, he has written to the government urging that steps be taken to withdraw them under Section 321 of the CrPC,” said Subodh Maity, the public prosecutor of East Midnapore district court.

Sources in the Haldia court said there were about 1,000 criminal cases against both Trinamul Congress and CPM workers, and nearly 500 arrest warrants. “But in the first phase, the assistant public prosecutor has mentioned about a dozen cases,” a source said.
