The body of a businessman from Hooghly’s Baidyabati, who had gone missing during a blizzard in the Annapurna region of Nepal last month, has been found, family members said on Tuesday.

Tathagata Jana, 42, was an experienced trekker and had been part of 14 other expeditions. He had left the city for Nepal on October 8, a day after Lakshmi Puja, with four others from the district. While three members of the group survived the blizzard, Jana and another trekker, Indranil Ghosh, were killed. Ghosh’s body was found a few days ago.

“A rescue officer called us from Nepal at 11.30am and told us that my brother’s body has been found,” Sidhhartha, one of Jana’s brothers said.

Jana was the youngest among his four brothers and is survived by wife and eight-year-old daughter. The body will be flown back to Kathmandu on Thursday before being brought to Baidyabati.

Jana is the fourth person from Bengal to have died in the October blizzard in Nepal.

Arup Roy Chowdhury, 40, from Dum Dum, and 61-year-old Sunil Sen from Howrah, who were part of another trekking team, had also died in blizzard during the period.
