The CESC Fountain of Joy lights up the Maidan during a trial run on Monday evening. The fountain — set up by CESC in 1991 and shut down in 2005 because of technical problems — has come back in a bigger and better avatar, thanks to the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group-run power utility that has renovated it at a cost of Rs 3 crore. The date of the new fountain’s inauguration is likely to be finalised this week. Sources said it would be a pre-Puja launch. While the old fountain had 20 water spouts, the new one has 150. The new fountain also features a 6mX18m water screen. The upper pool boasts 99 water effects, the intermediate 20 and the lower pool 30. The fountain has a large number lights and high-watt reflectors capable of changing colours fast. Picture by Amit Datta |
