Intaglio, the annual international B-school meet of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC), is about “reaching out… staying ahead” and the students are set to do just that in style.

The event is truly global, with participants from the best business schools in the world. The India Business Forum of the London School of Business will be a knowledge partner for the expositions lined up for the next Intaglio, to be held in early January 2008. Global business leaders, leading academicians, financiers, entrepreneurs and students constitute the forum.

“We expect some Ivy League schools to confirm their participation soon,” said Vijay Nair, an event coordinator for Intaglio. Harvard Business School, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and London Business School have confirmed participation.

The number of foreign schools that have been invited to Intaglio has doubled from 60 last year. The schools invited include Stanford Graduate School of Business, Tuck School of Business, National University of Singapore, Bordeaux Business School and Copenhagen Business School.

The number of Indian B-schools invited has gone up from 40 last year to 60. About 40 corporate houses, including investment banks, consulting firms and marketing majors like Boston Consulting Group, Bain, Lehman Brothers, Citi Group and Proctor and Gamble, are slated to take part.

Registration for Swiss Knife, which is awarded to the best team, has started. The participants compete in games that are part of the expositions — marketing (Selling Point), finance (Finesse), operations (Optimum), strategy (Stratagem) and systems (Domain). The winners get cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and the Swiss Knife trophy.

“Over 1,500 students had registered for Swiss Knife last year. This year, we expect the figure to cross 2,000,” said Prashi Agarwal, an event coordinator of Intaglio.
