“There’s so much more to Britain than Shakespeare and Downton Abbey,” said Sajid Javid, the British secretary of state for culture, media and sport, as he welcomed Indians to visit the UK, while speaking at a dinner hosted by the British deputy high commission at The Oberoi Grand on Monday. The cabinet minister is in India to encourage greater exchange between India and the UK in culture, heritage and sports. “We want more British museums exchanging with Indian museums, and not just the biggest museums but ones in the regions as well,” he said. Javid, a cricket buff, is also batting for sporting ties. “Not just football or cricket. We can learn a bit about hockey from India… you’re so good at it,” he smiled. Picture by Anindya Shankar Ray |
